Silver Poynton: A Celebration of Community and Connection

Here at Able Living Care, our mission has always been about more than just providing outstanding care at home; it’s about fostering a community where everyone feels valued, connected, and celebrated. That’s why we were so proud to host and sponsor our very own “Silver Poynton” event, our local take on Age UK’s wonderful Silver Sunday initiative. The day was a resounding success, bringing smiles, laughter, and a true sense of togetherness to our corner of Cheshire.

Bringing Silver Sunday to Poynton

Silver Sunday is a national day dedicated to celebrating older people and tackling the loneliness that can affect so many. Inspired by this powerful mission, we wanted to create something special right here in our hometown. And so, “Silver Poynton” was born!

We opened our doors and invited our neighbours and friends to join us for an afternoon of fun, food, and friendship. We welcomed over 50 people from our community and had a wonderful afternoon of socialising, music, dancing, bingo, tea and cake. A great way to celebrate the older generation of our community. It was a beautiful sight to see old friends catching up and new friendships blossoming over cups of tea and delicious slices of cake. The atmosphere was simply joyful, reminding us all of the power of a simple get together.

A Day Filled with Music, Memories, and Mirth

An event isn’t complete without entertainment, and our guests were in for a treat. We were thrilled to have the fantastic Poynton Reflections providing the soundtrack for the afternoon. It wasn’t long before the dance floor was full, with guests of all ages sharing a dance and creating new memories together. The energy was infectious, proving that you’re never too old to have a great time on the dance floor!

Of course, no community gathering is complete without a bit of friendly competition. A lively game of bingo brought out a playful spirit in everyone, with cheers and good natured groans echoing as the numbers were called. It was a classic activity that brought everyone together for some lighthearted fun.

A Big Thank You to Our Community Partners

A truly successful community event is always a team effort, and we are incredibly grateful for the support we received. A special thank you goes to Sharon Duke from Poynton Town Council, whose contributions made the day even more memorable.

Sharon kindly provided a fascinating collection of historical photographs of Poynton, allowing guests to take a nostalgic journey through our town’s past. She also shared memorabilia from the Queen’s Jubilee, sparking fond recollections and conversations. In addition to these wonderful displays, Sharon supplied valuable leaflets on health and wellbeing for older people, reinforcing our shared commitment to supporting our community in every way possible.

Her involvement highlighted the wonderful intergenerational spirit of the day and demonstrated how local organisations can work together to make a real difference.

More Than Just an Event

“Silver Poynton” was more than just a party. It was a powerful reminder that connection is vital at every stage of life. It was a chance to combat loneliness, share stories, and simply enjoy the company of others. Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces and witnessing the bonds being formed was the greatest reward.

At Able Living Care, we believe that supporting our clients means supporting their overall wellbeing, which includes their social and emotional health. Events like this are a core part of that philosophy. We are committed to continuing our work in the community and creating more opportunities for people to connect.

Thank you once again to everyone who attended, volunteered, and contributed to making Silver Poynton a day to remember. It’s the people that make Poynton such a special place, and we are so proud to be a part of it.
